TENTERDEN:

Tenterden, situated in the ancient Weald of Kent, about 12 miles west of Ashford, is an ideal venue for this friendly, family folk festival which is now in it's eight year. Tenterden features one of the widest High Streets in the country and the majority of the buildings are of historic interest and many are listed buildings. There are numerous pub’s, restaurants, hotels and interesting little shops, a steam railway, vineyards and the picturesque Kentish countryside. Where better to enjoy a weekend of traditional English folk song and dance?

FOCUS ON FESTIVAL EVENTS:

The Festival will start on Friday with a special Millennium Concert, featuring Martin Carthy and John Kirkpatrick supported by Tan Tethera and Pete and Lucy Castle, made possible by extra funding from Ashford Borough Council. There will also be a sing-a-round on Friday. There will be nearly 40 events on Saturday including an English barn dance, children’s events, concerts, craft fair, dance displays, folk club, Morris dancers, Appalachian dancers, music sessions, procession, puppet show, street theatre, workshops, and other folk events. On Sunday there will be an acoustic folk club, music session, Morris dancers and folk trains.

MUSICAL POLICY:

The emphasis remains very much on traditional English folk song and dance. We draw many of our guests from the south east of England, particularly Kent and Sussex, and also include guests well known on the national folk scene. Occasionally we will feature "foreign" song and dance particularly where this has a connection with the local area through the material or performers.

KENT AND EAST SUSSEX RAILWAY

Holders of our "Saturday and Sunday ticket" can obtain a generous 50% discount on the K&ES Railway on Saturday or Sunday. Also on Sunday K&ES Railway will again be running two special "folk trains" with guests from the festival to entertain passengers with a variety of folk songs and music.

Forth coming events:

Tenterden Folk Day Trust Educational Projects;
