The Dutch folk band "ALTEMET" is a late addition to the programme for Tenterden Folk Festival 2000. The band had arranged to come over from Holland for the Festival and when we heard their demo CD we were pleased to offer them a couple of slots during the weekend.
Altemet will be playing in the Saturday afternoon concert in The Leisure Centre that runs from 4.00 to 7.00 p.m. (tickets adults £5.00 under 16s £3.00) and also be joining Tan Tethera for a spot in the bar of The White Lion on Sunday from 11.30 a.m.
Altemet means "so all about" in the West-Frisian language. The band, which has been together for about 10 years, has a large repertoire of European folk songs and music including material from Eire to the Balcans by way of England, but their speciality is traditional Dutch folk music.
The Band consists of;
Riet Duinmeijer; accordion, vocals
Anne-Guus Smit; bagpipe (Flemish), bohdran, flutes and vocals
Truus Marcus; vocals and percussion
Dirk Duinmeijer; guitar, mandolin and vocals
Joan Roetering; flutes, recorders, tin whistles and vocals
Pieter de la Court; guitar, mandolin, banjo, violin and vocals.
So if you want to hear something different, come along to Tenterden Folk Festival and listen to folk music from the other side of the North Sea.
It is also worth noting that Kent and East Sussex Railway are offering holders of our Saturday/Sunday ticket holders a 50% discount on journeys on the historic steam trains on Saturday and Sunday. Also on Sunday there will be two special folk trains with festival guests entertaining passengers on the journey from Tenterden to Bodiam.
