Further guests added to Folk Festival line up

Further names have been added to guest list for Tenterden Folk Festival 2000 which takes place from Friday 6th to Sunday 8th October.

Among the latest additions is Joe Stead who has been a profession folk singer since 1966. He was also the owner of the well known folk record labels Greenwich Village Records and Sweet Folk All Recordings from 1973 to 1989 and a successful folk agent from 1972 to 1986. Joe has now reverted to his first love of being a full time profession folk singer and musician. As well as playing banjo, hence the nickname Banjo Stead, Joe sings mainly traditional folk songs. He distinguishes himself from the rest of the folk community with his desire to give the audience a choice in what they hear. No easy gig line up, pre decided before the audience is even assembled.

"Isn't this what folk singing is all about? Singing for the folk, having a say in what we as individuals want to hear?" Joe also presents various workshops on a diverse range of topics including the sailors use of sea shanties to accompany their work. There were shanties for hauling up the anchor, shanties for pumping the ship dry and various other shanties for rope and sail work. Joe will no doubt be performing some of these working songs over the weekend of Tenterden Folk Festival 2000.

The guest list now includes Martin Carthy, John Kirkpatrick, Band of Two, Pete Castle, Lucy Castle, Peter Collins, Bob and Kathy Drage, Bo Foaks, Gila's New Stage Theatre Co, Bing Lyle, Penny and Stuart Mack, The Pilgrims tbc, Ramskyte tbc, Sean and Trooper tbc, John Smedley, Jeff and Penny Smith tbc, Vic and Tina Smith, Joe Stead, The Sussex Pistols, Tan Tethera, Martin Young, Amazing Zolas and many more.

Send a sae to Tenterden Folk Day Trust to join the mailing list and to order you advance ticket.
