Tenterden Folk Festival

Press Release - March 2001

No Worries for Tenterden Folk Festival:

No Worries

Local folk trio No Worries are the latest addition to the ever-growing guest list for this year's Tenterden Folk Festival.

No Worries includes MARION RODGERS on percussion and vocals. Marion was taught bodhran by John Barden who she says is one of the finest players in the south east. With Cliff she works out the three-part harmonies that are the trio's trademark. BRIAN RODGERS, who is blessed with a rich voice, plays guitar and provides lead vocals. The third member of the trio is CLIFF BAYLIS, who plays mandolin, guitar, whistles and concertina. Cliff has many years' experience playing in duos and bands, is also a member of the band Pugwash. No Worries will be playing in several venues over the weekend. For information on the band visit their web site at www.folknet.co.uk/noworries

Band of Two

Band of Two have played Tenterden on several occasions but this year we are pleased to welcome them back as The Band of Two Big Band! The five piece line up of The Band of Two Big Band! will be PETE FYFE on guitar, mandolin and tenor banjo, GARRY BLAKELEY on fiddle, PAUL DENGATE on acoustic and electric guitars, JIM BRYAN on bass guitar and caller MICK SCOTT. Pete and Gary have been working together as Band of Two since a chance meeting at a Hastings beer festival in 1993 but their individual experience goes back far longer with bands such as Brian Boru and Better Days. Gary also plays with the band Tabs which filled the Woolpack to capacity when they played at the Festival a couple of years ago. The other members of the big band also bring a wealth of experience and talent to the band.

The Band of Two Big Band! will be playing for the Saturday evening ceilidh, which this year will be held just up the road in the hall at Homewood School. The School is within easy walking distance of the town centre but also offers ample parking. We will be providing our own real ale bar for the evening.

The number and diversity of the dance sides attending the Festival continues to grow. This year we are pleased to welcome the Instep Research Team, a team of clog dancers that specialise in collecting and performing traditional clog and step dances. Members are drawn from across the country and they are regular hosts of workshops at Sidmouth International Folk Festival.
