Tenterden Folk Festival

Press Release - March 2001

The main guests for the Friday night concert at the ninth Tenterden Folk Festival on 5th October 2001 are Martyn Wyndham-Read and No Man's Band.

Martyn last came to the festival in 1995 and is back by popular demand, this time with No Man's Band. English by birth, Martyn first developed his interest in folksongs of the Australian outback when he went to work there in the 1960's. While working on a sheep station "Emu Springs", hegained firsthand experience of life as a bush worker and at the same time fell in love with Australia and it's music. After seven years he returned to England where he performed these songs to an appreciative British Audience.

The other members of No Man's Band are;

Iris Bishop who plays duet and anglo concertina. Generally recognised as a leading player of duet concertina, Iris has worked and recorded with Martyn for many years and is an expert song accompanist and arranger.

Terry Potter and Ian Holder are veteran Sussex musicians and cousins. Terry plays mouth organ and Ian accordion and they been playing together for nearly 40 years. They where founder members of The Etchingham Steam Band. Terry played on many of Martyn's early recordings.

Gary Holden who plays double bass is the son of Ian and the youngest member of the band. He first dabbled with electric bass guitar before switching to string bass. A very sensitive and fine accompanist.
