The programme for the 10th Tenterden Folk Festival includes a record number and variety of events and something for everybody of all ages.
The main events at the Festival will include a very special Millennium Concert on Friday evening at Homewood School, an English Barn Dance, special concerts on Saturday, folk clubs, sing-a-rounds, sessions, story telling, dance displays, Morris dancers, Appalachian dancers, Scottish dancers, craft fair, street stalls, folk trains and much more. Venues include all the town centre public houses, Homewood School, the railway station, Leisure Centre, Town Hall, St Mildred's, the Millennium Gardens and the town centre. All details of the Festival are listed in the free programme that will be on our web site at www.folkspots.btinternet.co.uk and will be available in printed form from mid September. Weekend and single event tickets are now all on sale.
Events for children include Puppet Mania, sponsored by Ashford Borough Council, to be held in a marquee in the Millennium Garden at the rear of Tenterden Library who are also sponsoring the marquee. Top puppet theatre Imagination Productions will be presenting a show called 'Night Night Sleepy Hedgehog'. It's autumn, time for Henry Hedgehog to hibernate. But . . . he can't get to sleep! Can Polly's Puppets help? Jack tells a story and Jill sings a lullaby. Then Bruno finds a big sticky surprise in the wheelbarrow! Lots of audience participation, rhymes and super fun! Tickets for Puppet Mania will be on sale in advance. The very popular Amazing Zolas will be back at the Festival with their street theatre, balloon games, clowning and, of course, will also be hosting their regular Parachute Party which this year will also be in the Millennium Garden marquee.
Workshops will also be a popular part of this year's festival. These include workshops on the Anglo concertina with Andy Turner and Brian Peters, 18th and 19th century church choir music with the locally based Marsh Warblers, a Hooden Horse update by the well known folklorist George Frampton, and "a chance to meet Festival guests "The New Scorpion Band and Dave Webber and Anni Fentimann.
Raffles will be held at many festival events with a mammoth list of prizes donated by local people and businesses including High Street shops Anotoli Gift Shop, Thai Shop, Webbs, Winters, Keith Francis, Tenterden Bookshop, Whites Jewellers, Beauty Parlour and the Florist. There are also prizes donated by P & O Ferries, Seeboard, Boots, McDonalds, Moving Music, Coca Cola, Walkers Crisps, Harper Collins, Odyseey Video and Cedar Music. The prizes include a guitar, wine, jewellery, books, CDs, tokens and a cross channel trip. The raffle will only be open to people attending certain festival events.
