IMPORTANT
MEMORANDUM TO DANCE SIDES AND OTHER DISPLAY TEAMS
Hi folks,
I am emailing you because you have confirmed
that your team will be coming to Tenterden 2005, or I have noted from your
website that we are on your programme.
Below are some instructions for your info:
On arrival on Saturday:
Please aim to be here at
During the day:
The day is yours to do as you please, but do
move around the Town as much as possible, don't block the pavements or access
to shops, etc. Make use of the town
centre sites, including the Town Hall lay‑by, coach park, many wide
forecourts, paved areas, outside the entrance to Tenterden Museum (back of
Station Rd car park), the forecourt of Tenterden Town Railway Station (gravel
surface), and other safe sites, etc.
As outlined in my update of July, we would like
some sides to take part in some specific dance stands, namely the Kent &
East Sussex Railway trains (some free tickets for dancers), Tenterden Vineyard
(hopefully a minibus to take you there and back) and the VIP reception at
Tenterden Railway Station. If your team
fancies any of these, please let me know ASAP.
This year we once again have use of the barn at
the rear of the Woolpack Hotel. When not
in use for dance workshops, this will also be available to dance teams,
particularly if the weather is bad; see programme for details or enquire on the
day.
Procession and Coach Park display:
Please be ready in
Last year we asked dance teams in the procession
if they could pause for a minute or two opposite the Town Hall and dance for
our VIP guests, who were watching from the balcony. This was much appreciated by them so we would
very much like you to do so again this year.
At the end of the procession some sides will
perform in the Station Road Coach Park, but of course this is NOT
compulsory. If you would prefer to go
back on the High Street or the other casual sites and carry on informal dancing
that’s fine. If however you would like
to take part in the Coach Park display that would also be great but please
appreciate that you can't all go on first or last! I think the fairest system is that when you
arrive in the morning you let me know if you want to dance in the Coach Park
display and then the order of arrival in the procession will be the order you
go on (the only exception might be if your team is running a workshop or
something similar and needs to leave the display as early as possible). You can always go off and dance around the
town and come back later. The procession
and display in the Coach Park are very popular with the public.
Tickets:
If you have not done so already, please let me
know as soon as possible before the weekend how many "Full weekend
tickets" your side require (email me at dave@grace-house.freeserve.co.uk
). I would stress that tickets are
limited so an early reply would be appreciated.
"Full weekend" covers Friday evening, Saturday and Sunday
events and are available FREE of charge to MEMBERS of confirmed dance sides/teams
so please stay on for the rest of the Festival and enjoy the weekend. If you
don’t need tickets for Friday evening, they can be collected from me on Saturday.
Camping:
As outlined in my update in July, we have satisfactorily
completed negotiations with The
Woodlands Park which caters for tents, caravans and motor caravans.

Limited indoor camping will, as usual, be
available at the Scout Hut. You are
requested to make a donation to the Scouts for the use of the hall. Due to problems with access, no caravans will
be allowed at the Scout Hut but a small number of tents may be permitted by
prior arrangement but only for members of participating dance sides.
Also please respect the neighbours and leave the
field and hut as you find it or better.
Obviously we don’t wish to lose the goodwill that we, and you, have
built up.
Sunday:
There are no formal dance displays on Sunday but
you are more than welcome to dance in the usual casual sites as on
Saturday. The colour and vitality of display
teams is an essential part of the attraction of folk festivals and it would be
great if you decide to stay over for Sunday.
And finally:
Thank you for supporting Tenterden 2005. We have lots of good guests and dance sides/teams
throughout the weekend, and really appreciate you being a part of it. So here’s looking forward to a great
weekend. I look forward to seeing you
all, whether it is to make or renew acquaintance.
