Tenterden Folk Festival 2005

Friday 30th September to Sunday 2nd October 2005

The Family Event is new this year;

One of the most enjoyable and best attended events at many folk festivals is the family ceilidh.  There is something very special about being able to do social dances with your family and children and having other entertainment on hand as part of the event can only add to the pleasure.

This year Tenterden joins the long list of festivals providing such events, with a special Family Event in The Rainbow Room at the Leisure Centre from 3.30 until 5.45 on Saturday afternoon.  This event offers the whole family, what ever their ages, a chance to try a few simple dances and to listen to a few songs and stories, as well as other entertainment for and even by children.  For those who do not have a full weekend festival ticket, a special Family Event ticket is available for £10.00 which will cover up to two adults and two children.  Entry for additional children is £2.00 each.

A band consisting of Dave Hill (fiddle), Tina Smith (concertina) and Vic Smith (guitar and mandolo) will be playing for the dances and Vic will be giving the simple instructions that the dances require.  The dances will be interspersed with songs and stories suitable for children of all ages provided by Pete Castle.  All these people have decades of experience at providing entertainment for children at leading folk festivals and in schools throughout the country.  Pete Castle is well known to local school children as he had been one of the regular workshop leaders on the Festival’s educational projects since their inception over 10 years ago.

Ideally at an event such as this, there should be a contribution from children who have some folk music skills to show and the festival has been lucky enough to be able to feature children from Sandhurst Primary School who will be displaying their Maypole dances.

A final part of the attraction will be a chance to participate in the unusual entertainment provided by the ever popular Amazing Zolas.  The Zolas will also be running their Parachute Party in the Rainbow Room earlier in the day.

This is a chance to bring your family along to an event that you will remember for years and help to create a new generation of folk music enthusiasts!
