February 2005

Dear friends (and Hartley),

Your formal invitation to

Tenterden Folk Festival 2005

Friday 30th September to Sunday 2nd October

Those of you who were at last year’s festival (and there were plenty of you) will know that I stood in as Festival dance co-ordinator following the retirement of Dave Grabham.  I must have done OK as it looks like I’ve now got the job for life!  Does one get time off for good behaviour one asks oneself?  So, here is your invitation to this year’s Tenterden Folk Festival.

Sides are welcome to come and dance around the town on both Saturday and Sunday.  Sides are also encouraged to take part in the procession on Saturday and are welcome to take part in a more formal display if they wish.  Saturday will remain the main day but there are still plenty of opportunities for more sides to stay on for Sunday, so may I encourage you to make a weekend of it, particularly with the advent of better camping facilities (see below).

Yes, this year there is strong possibility we shall have an official Festival campsite at Homewood School, a short walk from the town centre.  Watch this space!  We can still provide indoor camping for those taking part in the Festival if you book in advance.  We do however expect sides making use of these facilities to make a donation to the Scouts for the use of their premises.  2005 will almost certainly see the return of the Folk Trains and the use of the Station at the Kent & East Sussex Railway.  We will let you know the final arrangements in due course.

If you know of any other sides that you would like us to invite to the Festival, please let me know as soon as possible or just pass a copy of this invitation on to them and tell me you have done so.  In the last few years we have come very close to being over subscribed so an early reply is recommended (In fact, last year we had nearly 30 sides attending).

We will be pleased to continue to provide a limited number of free weekend tickets to sides confirmed in advance.

The Festival will continue to follow the now very well established format with a few minor changes and continued improvements.  We will be booking guests over the forthcoming months and full details will be published in the usual folk magazines and on our web site at www.folkspots.btinternet.co.uk

Could you let me know if your team is coming, or not, by emailing me at dave@grace-house.freeserve.co.uk (not the folkspots email please).

On the other hand, if you are reading this and thinking “what is this idiot wittering on about?  This is nothing to do with me”, or are no longer involved with your dance team, please let me know and I will remove you from my mailing list.

I look forward to hearing from you and hope to see you all at Tenterden 2005.

Dave
