Folk
song, music and dance at the Kent Show
Presented by Tenterden Folk
Festival and South East Folk Arts Network
The Produced in Kent
Village at the Kent Show over the weekend of 14th
to 16th July saw what seemed to be a mini folk festival with a
variety of folk singers and musicians, bands and dance sides performing throughout
the weekend.
The Produced in Kent
Village was formed by a square of stalls selling
high class produce including pies, fudge, cherries, honey, wine and much
more. There were also demonstrations and
displays ranging from bee hives to milking machines.
In the centre of these stalls was
a stage where Tenterden Folk Festival and South East Folk Arts Network (SEFAN)
presented music from some of the countries best folk singers and
musicians. The Guest list comprised Pete
Castle, Bob Kenward and the
Wealden Ramblers, Marian Button, The Petteridge Light
Orchestra, Meridian, John Barden, Duck
Soup and The Saffron Summerfield Trio as well as dance displays from Kettle
Bridge Clog, Copperfield Clog, Taproots Appalachian and Wolfshead
and Vixen.
The whole weekend was very
successful with hot sunshine and excellent music. It was a display that any folk festival would
have been proud to have included in its programme.
Pete Castle,
Bob Kenward and Marian Button can be seen at
Tenterden Folk Festival 2006 from 6th to 8th
October. I am sure that several of the
other bands will also be booked for subsequent festivals.
