Tenterden Folk Festival 2006

Friday 6th to Sunday 8th October

The English Barn Dance

The festival barn dance has always been one of the most popular events at Tenterden Folk Festival and this year it is on track to be better than ever!

The changes in the licensing laws at the end of 2005 have enabled us to move the barn dance to the Tenterden Club, right in the town centre and very close to all the other festival venues.  The Club’s Moulton Hall provides a stage, a great floor for dancing and perfect acoustics for a band and the adjoining Evan’s Bar offers a full licensed bar with comfortable seating when you take a well earned rest from dancing.  A selection of hot and cold food will also be available to order in advance (download flyer).  To take full advantage of this opportunity we have booked one of England’ top dance bands for the English Barn Dance on Saturday 7th October.

TICKLED PINK

TICKLED PINK was formed in 1989. Originally a ceilidh band, they were formed as the perfect antidote to the stiff-starchy Country-dance bands of the time. They set out to be a band that could play Traditional English music that rocked, rather than just being another ‘Folk Rock’ Band. After a few line-up changes they finally hit the festival scene. Within a very short time they were one of the most sought after bands on the UK festival circuit. The band has appeared at almost every festival in the UK, including Glastonbury, Sidmouth, Towersey, Chippenham, Cropredy, Cambridge, Womad and are now adding Tenterden to this list.  They also came second in the 2005 BBC Folk Awards Best Dance Band category.

Tickled Pink were primarily an English Ceilidh band until three years ago when Mark Hutchinson, also a member of the Rainbow Chasers, joined. Having a membership with such a varied mix of musical tastes has influenced the sound of Tickled Pink. Their style combines Traditional English Music and song with many different musical genres.

Tickled Pink is signed to Tenterden Folk Festival sponsor’s Talking Elephant who are based not far away at Bexley Heath.  Talking Elephant also produced Simon Care’s “The Box Set”, plus albums by Ashley Hutchings, The Albion Band, Rainbow Chasers and Fairport Convention.  Tickled Pink’s long-awaited second album “Terpsichore Polyhymnia” featuring Simon Care, Gerald Claridge, Guy Fletcher, Mark Hutchinson, Rob Kay and Trevor Landen, was released in 2005 and includes an eclectic mix of traditional and contemporary song and English dance music.

Admission to the English Barn Dance is included in the Full weekend festival tickets or by separate barn dance tickets which will be priced at Adults £6.00 Under 16s £4.00.  You will also be able to order your food in advance.  See barn dance flyer and website for further details.
