Dear friends,
Your formal invitation to
Tenterden Folk Festival 2006
Friday 6th to Sunday 8th October
As its that
dance-programme-organising time of year, I thought it was high time I sent out
this years invitation to Tenterden Folk Festival.
As usual, sides are welcome to
come and dance around the town on both Saturday and Sunday. Sides are
also encouraged to take part in the procession on Saturday and are welcome to
take part in a more formal display if they wish. Saturday will remain the
main day but there are still plenty of opportunities for more sides to stay on
for Sunday, so may I encourage you to make a weekend of it. I know some people, particularly families,
come to the Festival to see the dancing, so it would be really brill if your team can dance on Sunday this year, not to
mention the possibility of some free train tickets (see below).
As regards camping, this year we
can also offer the use of a town centre field for camping but the Woodlands
Campsite just outside town will still be available to those who prefer the
added luxury of showers and electricity.
We can still provide indoor camping for those taking part in the
Festival if you book in advance. We do however expect sides making use of
these facilities to make a donation to the Scouts for the use of their
premises.
2005 saw the return of the Folk
Trains and the use of the Station at the Kent & East Sussex Railway. Alongside this the KESR offered a certain
number of free tickets for dance sides who wanted to travel on the trains and
dance at the stations along the railway.
They offered two sets of tickets on Saturday and one on Sunday, and we
envisage the same for 2006. These will
be offered on a first come first served basis.
If you know of any other sides
that you would like us to invite to the Festival, please let me know as soon as
possible or just pass a copy of this invitation on to them and tell me you have
done so. In the last few years we have come very close to being over
subscribed so an early reply is recommended.
We will be pleased to continue to
provide a limited number of free weekend tickets to sides confirmed in advance.
The Festival will continue to
follow the now very well established format with a few minor changes and
continued improvements. Following changes in the licensing laws we are
now able to use the
We will be booking guests over the forthcoming months and full details will be published in the usual folk magazines and on our web site at www.tenterdenfolkfestival.org.uk
Could you let me know if your
team is coming, or not, by emailing me at dave@grace-house.freeserve.co.uk
(not the folkspots email please).
On the other hand, if you are no
longer involved with your dance team or do not wish to receive any more
information, please let me know and I will remove you from my mailing list.
I look forward to hearing from
you and hope to see you all at Tenterden 2006.
