March 2007

Dear friends,

Your formal invitation to

Tenterden Folk Festival 2007

Friday 5th to Sunday 7th October

I was in our local supermarket today and noticed, in the distance, a member of one of the local morris sides.  This was a timely reminder that I had yet to send out this year’s invitation to Tenterden Folk Festival.  So..... here it is.

As usual, sides are welcome to come and dance around the town on both Saturday and Sunday.  Sides are also encouraged to take part in the procession on Saturday and are welcome to take part in a more formal display if they wish.  Saturday will remain the main day but there are still plenty of opportunities for more sides to stay on for Sunday, so may I encourage you to make a weekend of it.  If your team can only come on Sunday, no problem, you are more than welcome.  We really would like to see more teams dancing on Sunday, and as last year, we hope to have some free train tickets available (see below).

On the camping front, once again this year we can offer the use of a town centre field for camping but the Woodlands Campsite just outside town will still be available to those who prefer the added luxury of showers and electricity.  We can still provide indoor camping for those taking part in the Festival if you book in advance.  We do however expect sides making use of these facilities to make a donation to the Scouts for the use of their premises.

Those of you familiar with Tenterden will know it is blessed with its own heritage railway, the Kent & East Sussex Railway, which runs for 10 miles along the Rother Valley to Bodiam.  One of the popular features of the festival are the Folk Trains, upon which various festival guests entertain the travellers.  Alongside this the KESR has been kind enough to offer a certain number of free tickets for dance sides who wanted to travel on the trains and dance at the stations along the railway.  They have been offering two sets of tickets on Saturday and one on Sunday, and we envisage the same for 2007.  These will be offered on a first come first served basis.

If you know of any other sides that you would like us to invite to the Festival, please let me know as soon as possible or just pass a copy of this invitation on to them and tell me you have done so.  In the last few years we have come very close to being over subscribed so an early reply is recommended.

We will be pleased to continue to provide a limited number of free weekend tickets to sides confirmed in advance.

The Festival will continue to follow the now very well established format with a few minor changes and continued improvements.  We will be booking guests over the forthcoming months and full details will be published in the usual folk magazines and on our web site at http://www.tenterdenfolkfestival.org.uk/ .  I will also be emailing updates to dance teams during the coming months.

Could you let me know if your team is coming, or not, by emailing me at dave@NOSPAMgrace-house.freeserve.co.uk (remove the NOSPAM to reply), not the folkspots email please.

On the other hand, if you are no longer involved with your dance team or do not wish to receive any more information, please let me know and I will remove you from my mailing list.

I look forward to hearing from you and hope to see you all at Tenterden 2007.

Dave
