Tenterden
High Street (A28) will be closed from 3.00
to 3.30 p.m.
on Saturday (6th October) to facilitate the Tenterden
Folk Festival procession.

Sunday 7th October
Dance displays and
procession:
Between 300 and 400 Morris dancers, together with their musicians,
mascots, fools, Kentish Hooden horses, giants, etc will be in Tenterden on
Saturday from about 10.00 a.m. to 6.00 p.m. and will be dancing at various sites
around the town centre. They will be
joined by Scottish dancers, Appalachian dancers and the Morena
Slovak Dancers. Some sides will also be
dancing out on Sunday.
The dancers will all gather in Recreation Ground Road from 2.30 p.m. on Saturday and once assembled, they
will process up past the Recreation Ground and along the High Street. The balcony of the Town Hall will be thronged
with 40 to 50 VIPs including Damien Green MP, the Mayors of Ashford and
Tenterden, County, Borough and Town Councillors and other supporters of the
Festival. There will also be a
contingent from Avallon, Tenterden’s
twin town in France.
Once passed the Town Hall the dancers will turn right into Station Road and continue to the Coach Park where
they will give a dance display from 3.30 to around 5.30 or 6.00 p.m.

Morris, Dead Horse Morris, East Kent Morris, Flora, the Singleton Giant, Gong
Scourers, Hartley Morris, Hunters Moon, Invicta
Morris, Kent Corkers and Pork Scrathins, Kettle
Bridge Clogs, Kits Coty Morris, Loose Women, MacLennan
Scottish Group, Maenads, Marling Morris, Mish Mash Morris, Morena Slovak
Dancers, Offcumduns, Oojah Kappivvy, Priory Morris, Ravensbourne
Morris, Tonbridge Morris, Tanglefoot Appalachian, Victory
Morris, The Wild Hunt and Wolfshead and Vixen.
Folk trains:
On both Saturday and Sunday dancers, musicians and singers
will be entertaining passengers on the steam trains on Kent and East Sussex
Railway. On Saturday dancers will be
travelling on several trains and dancing at the Town Centre station at various
times throughout the day. On Sunday the
dancers will again be on the trains but there will also be Festival guests on
hand to entertain the other passengers.
On Sunday dancers will be on the 11.45 a.m. and 2.20 p.m. trains and singers and musicians
will be on 10.40 a.m., 1.15 p.m. and 3.30 p.m. steam trains from the Town Centre
Station to Bodiam and back. If you would like a chance to steam through
the autumnal Kentish country side and sing a few songs on a steam train this is
your chance. Normal fairs apply and tickets are available from the K&ES
Railway at the Town Centre Station.
Craft fair, Music fayre and stalls:
Also find time to visit the craft fair in the Town Hall, the
Music fayre in the Woolpack Barn and the stalls in
the High Street.
